Reviews
Nangmyeon was refreshing and cooling especially on a hot night. Sashimi bap was another dish great on a summer’s night. It was change from a normal bibimbap. I would recommend giving this place a try. Customer service was good.
One of the oldest 🇰🇷Korean🇰🇷 Food specialty restaurant in Melbourne. Famous as it has the authentic Korean dish wow factor and its very very price competitive (wallet friendly).
This time we ordered: Fried chicken wings Korea style, Jjamppong, kimchi jjigae, Japchae, bbq ribs.
Fried chicken wings🍗🍗 : just ok (we ordered as our youngest one love fried chicken)
Jjamppong🍲: this one is very good and the chef even accommodate for my extra spicy special request. One serve is big enough for 2 or 3 people.
Kimchi jjigae🍲: this one is exceptional, the broth is so full of flavour and fresh.
Japchae 🍜: this one also just ok, maybe a little bit too much oil but flavour is there.
Bbq ribs🍖: yummy full of flavour and big serve as well.
Verdict : kimchi grandma is still a good place to visit when you crave for Korean food with decent pricing.
So why the 4 star instead of the 4, well a number of things.
The banchan which is a must in any Korean eating place is no longer free (charged 1 dollar per small plate), the place I think needs a better lighting.
Other than that I think this place is a gem, will definately visit again. Also to add the new friendly owner just recently take over the business so maybe there will be slight adjustment to the flavour but so far it's been positive for us😏🫰🫰🫰
I have never been to a Korean restaurant that doesn’t offer kimchi as a complimentary side dish - quite ironic because this place is named the “kimchi grandma”.
The stew was overly sweet which we didnt like, the pork was tough and dry, wouldn’t recommend it.
kimchi pancake was good, it was quite a large serving. teriyaki chicken tasted okay too
The restaurant is very crowded. Food is quite salty including the kimchi and tobboki
We ordered Bibimbap, spicy pork bulgogi, sweet soy fried chicken and seafood pancake. The sweet soy chicken is coated with too much sauce, chicken not crispy. The rest are just ok.
The restaurant has been opened for more than 20 years, the food are always good. However, the lady staffs are not friendly, they need to learn how to smile!. The toilets need an improvement. Overall is ok. Thank you
This restaurant is extremely nice and delicious. The food felt very authentic and the flavours melt in your mouth. The staff never fail to make you feel welcome and the quality of food makes you craving back for more. Was pleasantly surprised!
Really one of the best Korean restaurant in town! Highly recommended. First time I was introduced this place by my friend who took me here for dinner and I am hooked until now. Food are all amazing, really delicious and authentic. Really good if you go with party of 3-4 people so you can share more dishes. Service is on point and friendly. Atmosphere is good for friends family and kids. Good thing is they are BYO too! If you haven't been already, do try! You won't be disappointed.
